Euro Nations Cup 2027 Plan Revealed, Modeled on Asia Cup

The sport of cricket is expanding rapidly, and Cricket Ireland has come up with a new initiative which will take the game to the next level. According to reports by ESPNcricinfo, the Cricket Board of Ireland is targeting to launch the Euro Nations Cup, as a counter to the Asia Cup.

As per the reports, the Euro Nations Cup is expected to be introduced in 2027 and will see top European teams taking part in it. Some of the best cricket teams in the world like England, Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, and Italy are likely to participate in this tournament.

The Euro Nations Cup format will be will be played in the T20 which will be played by both men’s and women’s teams. The concept is based on the structure of the Asia Cup, which features top teams competing in either ODI or T20 formats based on the upcoming ICC event.

Euro Nations Cup 2027: A New Era for European Cricket

As per reports, Cricket Ireland's current chair Brian MacNeice has raised the idea of the Euro Nations Cup with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Discussions were held during one of the best T20 cricket teams in the world, England’s brief T20I tour to Ireland last September; however, the ECB has yet to respond to the proposal.

The CI chair said he is confident that the tournament will begin soon, as multiple stakeholders are involved. He also added that the format and further details will be announced in due course. Speaking during the announcement of Ireland’s fixture release, he said:

If the Euro Nations Cup is launched, then it will act as a strong platform for England, Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, and Italy to prepare for the ICC events. This has been the case with Asian teams, as the Asia Cup allows them to prepare effectively for major tournaments.

For instance, India, which won the Asia Cup 2025, was well prepared and went on to win the T20 World Cup 2026 as well. Other Asian teams also performed well, as they were able to identify and address key issues during the Asia Cup, helping them enter the ICC event with confidence.

Moreover, the Euro Nations Cup could significantly help in the growth of cricket in Europe. European teams delivered impressive performances in the T20 World Cup 2026, and regular competitive exposure would further improve their overall standard and consistency. This tournament will be played in the T20 format.
