2 min
Vijay Shankar

In today’s white-ball game, the ability to move across batting positions has become increasingly important, and former India all-rounder Vijay Shankar feels players who can adjust quickly to changing match situations bring extra value to a team. During his career with India and in the richest cricket league in the world, the IPL, he has batted in multiple positions ranging from No. 3 to No. 8.

He has also started preparing beyond playing, and Vijay Shankar coaching career can also be considered as his potential future path, as he has already earned his Level 2 certification. However, at 35, he is not planning to move into coaching immediately and instead wants to continue playing professionally as a freelance cricketer in overseas leagues before taking that next step.

Former CSK Player Vijay Shankar Reveals Career Path in Coaching

Vijay Shankar CSK stint wasn't as successful, but the allrounder shared his experience with one of the best teams in IPL and laid emphasis on being adaptable as an allrounder. He said cricket has played a major role in his life and he hopes to give back to the game in the future. As part of preparing for that journey, he has already completed his Level 2 coaching certification through the BCCI.

However, coaching is not an immediate plan, as he still wants to continue playing competitive cricket for as long as his fitness allows. That desire to keep competing was one of the main reasons behind his decision to step away from domestic cricket while remaining open to opportunities elsewhere. At the same time, he admitted that coaching remains a strong interest and sees himself moving into that role in the coming years.

Looking back at his playing career, Vijay revealed that the one disappointment he still carries is missing out on playing Test cricket for India. He explained that earning the India Test cap had always been his biggest dream and something he valued above all formats of the game. Although he came very close to achieving it, not being able to represent the country in Test cricket remains the only major regret of his career.
