Harmanpreet Kaur Gives All Credit to This Lady After Winning Women’s World Cup 2025

In a historic showdown at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, India’s women’s cricket team achieved a landmark victory by winning their first-ever Women’s Cricket World Cup, defeating South Africa by a convincing 52 runs in the 2025 final. It was an excellent final between two of the best women's cricket teams in the world.

Batting first, India set a challenging total of 298/7, led by Shafali Verma, who scored a brilliant 87 off 78 balls. She shared an important opening partnership of 104 runs with Smriti Mandhana.

Chasing 299, South Africa started with their captain, Laura Wolvaardt, producing yet another masterclass century. However, despite her effort, South Africa struggled to maintain momentum in the middle overs, losing key wickets at crucial points. India’s bowlers, particularly Deepti Sharma, exploited these moments, delivering a sensational five-wicket haul (5/39) to dismantle the Proteas’ batting line-up.

South Africa were eventually bowled out for 246 in 45.3 overs, falling short of the target by 52 runs. The IND vs SA Women World Cup final went down to the wire but the Women in Blue won the match comfortably in the end.

Indian team skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur, was clearly emotional during the celebrations and even in the post-match presentation and in her conversation, she credited one of the young budding talents from the team.

Harmanpreet Kaur Gives All Credit to Shafali Verma

After India’s historic World Cup win, captain Harmanpreet Kaur praised Shafali Verma for her crucial contribution. She said that Shafali’s fearless batting at the start gave the team a strong foundation and set the tone for the rest of the innings. Kaur highlighted that she had the feeling that today is Shefali's day and that is why she handed the ball over to her, and Shafali didn't disappoint her skipper as she scalped two crucial wickets.

“When Laura and Sune were batting, they were looking really good. I just saw Shafali standing there, and the way she was batting, I knew it was our day. I thought I have to go with my gut feeling. If my heart was saying, I had to give her at least one over,” Harmanpreet said during the presentation ceremony.

“And that was the turning point for us. When she came to the team, we spoke to her that we might need 2-3 overs, and she said if you give me bowling, I will bowl ten overs. Credit goes to her, she was so positive and she was there for the team. Salute her,” she added.

Meanwhile, Shafali Verma played a blinder in the final to help India clinch their maiden World Cup title. Verma starred with the bat earlier in the day and smashed 87 off just 78 balls to give her team a flying start. She struck 7 fours and 2 sixes during her knock. Shafali also formed a brilliant partnership of 104 runs with Smriti Mandhana, one of the best women cricketers in the world.

Shafali didn't stop here and made useful contribution with the ball as well. She picked up two big wickets of Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp to give India vital breakthroughs at a crucial time. Her all-round contributions earned her a Player of the Match performance.
