Jos Buttler reached another milestone in his remarkable T20 career, but even after becoming the highest run-scorer in the format's history, the England T20 opener and one of the best wicketkeepers in the world already predicted the player who could eventually overtake him. Buttler pointed towards India's new generation, suggesting that the record may not remain with him forever.

The England star achieved the landmark during Manchester Super Giants' clash in The Hundred 2026, where he played a brilliant knock of 51 runs from only 20 deliveries. His innings helped him move to the top of the all-time T20 run-scoring list, surpassing West Indies legend Kieron Pollard. Jos Buttler now has 14,833 runs in 522 T20 matches, edging past Pollard's 14,803 runs in 746 games.

Universe Boss Chris Gayle occupies third place on the all-time T20 run-scoring list with 14,562 runs, having dominated the format for more than a decade. "It's really cool actually to think you've got the most T20 runs out of everyone,” Buttler said. “Someone will surpass it one day, and his name's probably Sooryavanshi. But no, it's a proud moment.”

However, he also acknowledged that cricket records are always meant to be broken and expressed confidence that an Indian batter could one day surpass his tally. At just 15 years of age, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has already established himself as one of the most dangerous batsmen in the world.

He quickly made a successful transition to international cricket, showing his class in India's three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. The teenage sensation scored 151 runs across the series, played a key role in India's dominant 3-0 clean sweep, and he was named Player of the Series for his match-winning contributions.

For the moment, Buttler stands alone at the top of the all-time T20 run-scoring charts. However, if his prediction proves accurate, the player who eventually replaces him could be Suryavanshi, a teenage sensation whose cricketing journey is only just beginning.
