How China Women is Out of Asian Games Despite Washout Against Bangladesh? Explained

The China Women's cricket team had one of the worst possible starts to their Asian Games 2026 campaign in Aichi-Nagoya after their quarter-final fixture against Bangladesh was washed out.

The match, the first one in cricket at Asian Games 2026, was due to be played on September 17 at the Korogi Sports Park, Nisshin. However, poor weather conditions forced the match to be abandoned. The wash out also brought China Women's campaign in the Asian Games 2026 to an end.

How is China Women Out of Asian Games Cricket Competition?

The alignment of the Asian Games 2026 fixtures is such that an abandoned game can end a team's campaign. The BAN-W vs CHN-W match was a quarter-final match and hence, a knockout one as well.

Since no result was possible, Bangladesh qualified for the semi-finals due to their higher ranking than China. According to the Rule 16.10.2(b) of the Asian Games cricket qualification rules, Bangladesh are currently ranked 8th in the ICC women's team rankings while China are way below them at the 36th spot.

It was a disappointing result for China as they looked to make an impact in their third Asian Games appearance. Getting knocked out without playing a single game can hurt an athlete and China became the first cricket team to be eliminated from these games.

Bangladesh will now face the winner of the IND-W vs JPN-W match, which will be played on September 18 on the same ground. India Women will be favorites to win this game against Japan as they are amongst the best women's cricket teams in the world and also the current Asia Cup champions.
