India U19 Create History with Record Chase to Enter Final

The India U19 cricket team produced a magnificent batting performance in the second semi-final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026. The Boys in Blue defeated Afghanistan U19 in a high-scoring game to secure their spot in the final.

They will be playing against England U19, who defeated the Australia U19 cricket team in the first semi-final. Meanwhile, the Indian team not just qualified for the final but also created a record during the IND U19 vs AFG U19 semi final.

India Records Highest Run Chase in U19 World Cup History

Afghanistan batted first after winning the toss and put up a huge total of 310 runs on the back of two centurions, Faisal Shinozada and Uzairullah Niazai, who helped the team to put up a fighting total. To win the match, the Boys in Blue needed to score 311 runs. Before this match, the highest successful run chase in Under-19 World Cup history was 305 by New Zealand U19, which came against Ireland in 2006 in Colombo.

India broke that record to create history, and that too in a semi-final game. They won the match pretty convincingly by seven wickets with 8.5 overs to spare. The India U19 record run chase shows the batting power of this team, which has players who can go on to become the best batsmen in the world.

Aaron George Hundred Helps India U19 Beat Afghanistan U19

Chasing a monumental target of 311 runs, openers Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Aaron George provided a destructive start to the team, stitching together a 90-run stand for the first wicket in just 9.3 overs. The wild assault was carried by the 14-year-old Suryavanshi, who showed why he is considered one of the most dangerous batsmen in the world as he smashed 68 runs off just 33 balls, including nine fours and four sixes.

The left-handed batter was dropped twice by Afghanistan, and they paid a heavy price for it. On the other hand, Aaron George batted sensibly and kept one end safe; however, he never shied from punishing the poor deliveries and smashed a hundred. He also built a 114-run stand for the second wicket with skipper Ayush Mhatre, who scored 62 runs in the match. George was named Player of the match for his match-winning century.

This win adds one more feather to India U19 records list. With this victory, India have now made it to the U19 World Cup final in six straight editions - 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, 2024, and 2026. This will also be their 10th appearance in an U19 World Cup final, the highest by any team in the tournament's history. The second team in the list is Australia, with six appearances.
