The India U-19 cricket team is set for another crucial overseas series with a challenging tour to Australia starting September 21. The tour will feature three youth ODIs and two youth Tests, and the series will help the young bloods to showcase their talent and cement their place in India’s future senior squads. They just had a successful campaign in England earlier this summer and will look to continue their dominance against the Kangaroos as well.

Once again, young Indian prodigy Ayush Mhatre has been handed over the captaincy of the team. The 17-year-old batter from Mumbai had a tremendous outing as a captain against England and now will be seen again to lead a 17-member squad for a multi-series in Australia. Mhatre emerged as the highest run-scorer for his team in the Test series, scoring two magnificent centuries with 340 runs at an impressive average of 85 across four innings.

Apart from him, there will be some other budding youngsters who will take part in the tour, and one of them is a 14-year-old wonder-kid, Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The left-handed batter lit up with the bat in the ODI series against England, scoring 355 runs at a strike rate of 174, which also includes the fastest youth century ever scored off just 52 balls. Despite being just 14 years of age, selectors have decided to retain him for the Australia tour as well.

Who will be India Captain for India U19 Tour of Australia 2025?

Ayush Mhatre will lead India Under-19 cricket team during the tour of Australia. Mhatre came into the limelight when Chennai Super Kings approached him in the mid-season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year. The right-handed opening batter impressed everyone with his excellent technique and skills.

It was surprising that the youngster got the opportunity to play for CSK even without any prior T20 experience. However, his 94-run knock off just 48 balls proved that he has something to be called a young prodigy. Apart from his magnificent batting performances, Mhatre also impressed with his leadership skills during the India U19 tour of England recently.

Just like Mhatre, another young prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, also came into the limelight during IPL 2025 while playing for the Rajasthan Royals. Suryavanshi was already making headlines while thrashing the opponents in domestic cricket. Then came his magnificent 101-run knock off 38 balls during IPL 2025 against Gujarat Titans, which left the cricket world in shock. Vaibhav’s ability to hit huge sixes that too against quality bowlers, is what makes him different from others.
