No Free IPL This Time! Jio Merges with Hotstar– Find Out How Much You Need to Pay to Watch

The Reliance Industries and Walt Disney company came together and became part of one the biggest Mergers in the sports, and entertainment streaming industry. They launched JIO Hotstar which is the merger of Jio Cinema and Disney + Hotstar, this will have a content library from both platforms. They came together to take on OTT giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

This Merger brought the two most valuable sports rights under the same umbrella which include the Indian Premier League, ICC Tournaments in cricket, and English Premier League from soccer.

This alliance will also bring some of the top studio’s content onto the same platform. Whether it is Disney, Warner Bros., HBO, or Paramount, everything will be available on JIO Hotstar. That’s the main reason behind their tagline i.e. “Welcome to the world of Infinite Possibilities”.

The biggest update for the viewers of IPL about this merger is that IPL will no longer be free to the users, previously it was completely free for all the JIO cinema users. Now viewers have to subscribe to the paid version for streaming the live telecasts of IPL. Owners of JIO Hotstar want to convert their mass user base into paid subscribers and generate huge revenue from it.

JIO Hotstar paid plans start from just ₹149 for 3 months, in this plan users will be able to watch IPL Live Streaming but there will be ads, which cannot be skipped. For AD- free premium plan user needs to pay ₹499 for three months. This will be a premium plan in which subscribers will get the highest picture quality as well with no ads and multiple device access.

The Disney+ Hotstar App will changed into the JIO Hotstar App while on the other hand, the Jio Cinema app will be discontinued. A brand new logo has also been introduced for JIO Hotstar which looks quite unique.
