Star Indian Wicketkeeper Announces Shocking Retirement Ahead of Afghanistan Test

3 min
KS Bharat

Days before India's Test match against Afghanistan, KS Bharat, a well-known name in the Indian domestic circuit, has announced his retirement from international cricket just ahead of the IND vs AFG Test match in New Chandigarh. Once seen as a Test specialist, Bharat made his name in the domestic circuit with some excellent wicketkeeping skills.

However, he has decided to call time on his international career after being out of contention for the last few years. Bharat's excellent keeping skills didn't match the required batting potential in international cricket and he was subsequently dropped after a few low-key outings. KS Bharat retirement has come as a shock to many who believed that he still had some cricket left.

KS Bharat Announces Retirement From International Cricket

Bharat was only 32 years old when he announced his retirement. He took to the social media and expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported him throughout the career. Apart from his family, he also thanked the BCCI, Andhra Cricket Association, and VDCA for allowing him to represent the nation when he was at his peak.

KS Bharat also took a moment to remember his Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, his IPL and international captains, respectively. He also thanked the former India head coach Rahul Dravid for nurturing and supporting him during the India A days.

KS Bharat retirement reason is not official yet, however, it is believed that he might play in some other leagues now. An Indian player cannot play in other cricket leagues unless he completely retires from Indian cricket.

Once known as one of the best wicketkeepers in India, Bharat will always be remembered for his exceptional skills with the gloves. His glovework immediately drew attention of the selectors, who looked at him as a Test specialist. As a result, Bharat was picked for India A after doing well in domestic cricket.

One of KS Bharat's memorable achievements was his stint with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru during IPL 2021. He famously smashed a last-ball six against Delhi Capitals to win the game for RCB, one of the best teams in IPL. During this knock, he scored an unbeaten 78 off 52 balls.
