Kwena Maphaka Ruled Out of Australia ODI Series, Check His Replacement

South Africa's injury concerns do not seem to end as they have lost another fast bowler just a day before the start of the series against Australia. Already going with a depleted bowling attack, Kwena Maphaka's name is the latest to be added to South Africa injury list for Australia ODI series.

Maphaka, who is seen as the future of the Proteas bowling attack, has been ruled out of the entire ODI series starting from September 24. This is a massive blow for a bowling attack which is already dealing with the absence of Kagiso Rabada.

Kwena Maphaka Ruled Out of Australia ODI Series

Kwena Maphaka has a right hamstring strain that has ruled him out of the ODI series against Australia. The young left-arm quick suffered the injury when he was preparing for the series.

Cricket South Africa confirmed Kwena Maphaka injury through their social media handle. Maphaka will now be assessed further which will determine the nature of his injury. The Proteas team management will hope that he recovers in time for the Test series.

Right-arm fast bowler Lizaad Williams has been appointed Kwena Maphaka replacement for the Australia ODI series. Williams is a skilful bowler and can be a good addition in the squad due to his ability to bowl at the death. However, it won't be easy to replace Maphaka, who could have been a useful asset on these wickets.

Blow For South Africa's Bowling Attack

South Africa's bowling attack was already depleted before Kwena Maphaka's injury. Three of their top fast bowlers - Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, and Ottneil Baartman - were already out due to respective injury concerns. Rabada and Ngidi are amongst the best bowlers in the world and could have been potential threats on the bouncy pitches in South Africa.

It remains to be seen how they perform with this bowling attack against an Australian team that has some of the best batsmen in the world. It is also a great opportunity for these youngsters to stake a claim in the next year's ODI World Cup, which will be played on same grounds.
