SL Appoint T20 WC Winning Captain as New Fast Bowling Consultant

The T20 World Cup 2026 is nearly a month away as the tournament is scheduled to kick off on January 7, with the Netherlands and Pakistan clashing against each other in the first match. All the teams have started their preparation for the prestigious event; however, there are still some teams that haven't announced their squad for the World Cup. India and Sri Lanka will be co-hosting the tournament together. Talking about Sri Lanka, they recently made a key move ahead of the tournament by appointing a World Cup-winning Sri Lankan captain as their new fast bowling consultant.

SL appoint Lasith Malinga as New Fast Bowling Consultant

Sri Lanka Cricket have announced that Malinga will be an official member of the support staff for a short time to guide the pacers for the T20 World Cup in February and March. Malinga was appointed as the Sri Lanka fast bowling consultant on December 30 for a period of 40 days. The role will be effective from December 15 to January 25.

Lasith Malinga fast bowling consultant role will help Sri Lanka given his huge experience at this level. Sri Lanka are set to play a three-match T20I series against Pakistan on January 7, 9, and 11. During the series, Malinga will be closely appointing pacers like Nuwan Thushara, Eshan Malinga, Dushmantha Chameera, and others who could play an important part in the upcoming World Cup.

Malinga is a GOAT of cricket and was the captain when Sri Lanka won the T20 World Cup title in 2014. He has played T20 cricket all over the world across various conditions.

Lasith Malinga's Coaching Experience

Lasith Malinga T20 World Cup 2026 presence will help Sri Lanka as he is undoubtedly a legend when it comes to fast bowlers. Even his coaching career has been very impressive as he has closely worked with the bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. The former Sri Lankan legend was also a part of the Rajasthan Royals' camp for a short period.

Malinga is known to be one of the best T20 bowlers of all time, and his experience of bowling in the death overs will be very crucial for Sri Lankan bowlers. Talking about Malinga's international career as a player in the shortest format, he's played 84 matches and took 107 wickets. He was also the first bowler to cross the 100-wicket mark in T20Is. He also has a total of 390 wickets in his 295 appearances in the multiple T20 cricket leagues across the world.
