Meg Lanning was widely expected to draw one of the highest price tags at the WPL 2026 auction, and she might not be the highest but managed a decent bid of 1.9 crore to UP Warriorz. She was released by the Delhi Capitals Women before the auction and has been one of the most consistent batters of the league scoring more than 950 runs in just 27 matches.

Meg Lanning new WPL team is UP Warriorz. She was bought at a price of INR 1.90 crore. This will be her second WPL team after she spent the first three seasons with Delhi Capitals women, where she was the captain of the team.

The bidding started at ₹50 lakh, with Delhi Capitals making the first move before UP Warriorz jumped into the contest. A fast-paced battle between the two franchises quickly pushed the price past ₹1 crore. Delhi Capitals raised their offer to ₹1.6 crore, UP Warriorz countered with ₹1.7 crore, and ultimately secured Lanning at ₹1.9 crore. For context, she was bought for ₹1.1 crore in the WPL 2023 auction.

Lanning, who is among the best women cricketer was released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the mega auction. She captained the franchise to the WPL final in all three of the previous seasons, though never won the title.

Meg Lanning, the former captain of Australia and ex-leader of Delhi Capitals Women, has established herself as one of the most dominant batters in the Women’s Premier League since its launch in 2023. Across 27 WPL matches, she has scored 952 runs at an impressive average of 39.67, maintaining a strike rate of 127.10, and registering nine half-centuries.

Her WPL career has featured several memorable performances, including a 92 off 57 balls in 2025, which remains her highest score in the tournament. Additionally, Meg Lanning became the first player in WPL history to surpass 500 runs in a single season in 2024.
