As a result, these teams won't be seen playing separately from the upcoming edition of BBL, one of the biggest cricket leagues in the world.

The Melbourne team merge in BBL will form a united Victorian side. Both Stars and Renegades have been playing BBL since its inaugural edition, making them a historic part of the league's history. However, a decision has been taken to separate them.

Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades Merge

According to SEN News, the new name of the team won't be called 'Victoria' despite the merge because of Cricket Australia's rules and regulations. The team will be named after Melbourne and the second name is still being discussed. Additionally, they are likely to wear the Navy Blue jersey.

As per the reports, Cricket Victoria's second franchise will be sold soon, although, the timing of the sale process is out of their hands. It also remains to be seen what happens to the deal with the Marvel Stadium, the home ground of Melbourne Renegades.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground, one of the biggest cricket stadiums in the world, will now be the home ground of this new team. Meanwhile, the General Manager of Melbourne Renegades, James Rosengarten, will take the same position for the new Melbourne team now.

The Melbourne teams haven't had too much success in the Big Bash League history. They have one just one title combined over the years. Melbourne Renegades won that title, during the 2018-19 edition while Melbourne Stars are yet to win a trophy so far. Now, the fans in the state will hope for a better performance after the BBL teams merge.

Will Women's Melbourne Teams Also Merge?

Not just the men's teams, but the women's teams of Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades are also set to merge. The united Melbourne team will be in action from the upcoming edition of Women's Big Bash League. (WBBL)

Before the BBL, Victorian Bushrangers used to be the team that represented the region. The team wore Navy Blue-coloured jersey and has produced some of the best cricketers in the world like Shane Warne, Dean Jones, Meg Lanning, Glenn Maxwell and many more.
