In a special tribute to one of India’s most influential women cricketers, a Mithali Raj Stand is being named in in Vizag Stadium, Visakhapatnam. Alongside Mithali Raj, a stand honouring Ravi Kalpana, who has represented India in seven ODIs, will also be inaugurated on the same day. This honour celebrates both national players and local stars, showing how much they have contributed to Indian women’s cricket.
The stands are set to be officially unveiled on October 12, just ahead of India’s Women’s ODI World Cup clash against Australia. The move comes following a suggestion by India opener Smriti Mandhana, who brought up the idea during a conversation with Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh at the Breaking the Boundaries event held in August.

Mithali Raj, former captain and one of the most famous female cricketers of India, holds the record for the most runs scored in women’s ODIs. Over 232 matches, she scored 7,805 runs at an impressive average of 50.68, including seven centuries. In addition to her ODI success, Raj scored 2,364 runs in 89 T20 internationals, with 17 fifties at an average of 37.52. She also performed well in Test cricket, scoring 699 runs in 19 innings with an average of 43.68. Her highest score was 214, which is the highest ever by an Indian woman in Test matches. After an illustrious career spanning 23 years, she retired from all formats in 2022.

Ravi Kalpana, who featured in seven ODIs for India between 2015 and 2016, has been an inspiration for many young cricketers from her region. Her journey to the national team has motivated players like Arundhati Reddy, S Meghana, and N Shree Charani to pursue their dreams on the cricket field.
