Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has decided to part ways with veteran all-rounder Sean Williams, confirming that his national contract will not be renewed after it expires on 31 December. The 39-year-old, who recently entered a rehabilitation program to address drug addiction, will no longer be considered for national selection.

Zimbabwe Removes Sean Williams Due to Drug Addiction
In a statement, ZC cited a troubling pattern of unprofessional behaviour as the main reason behind the decision. Williams reportedly withdrew from the national squad just before the start of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier in Harare, allegedly to avoid a drug test, before later checking himself into rehab.
Sean Williams had to bring the curtain down on a remarkable two-decade career, finishing as one of Zimbabwe’s most accomplished cricketers. Over 20 years, he smashed 8,968 runs and 14 centuries, placing him fifth on the country’s all-time run-scorers list, trailing only greats like Brendan Taylor and Andy Flower.
He also bowled left-arm spin and proved a valuable contributor, taking 161 wickets, the 10th-highest tally for Zimbabwe across formats. In their statement, Zimbabwe Cricket expressed appreciation for Williams’ contributions to the national side and extended their best wishes for his recovery and future pursuits beyond the game.
