Indian players celebrate a wicket

Former Indian cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav is all set to take the leadership role again. This development comes after he was dropped from Team India after poor returns with the bat.

However, the 36-year-old is set to return to domestic cricket for Mumbai. The decision to make Suryakumar Yadav as Mumbai captain could be based on his previous leadership experience. This could be a great opportunity for the star batter to push his case forward for Team India once again.

Suryakumar Yadav To Captain Mumbai in Domestic Cricket

As per Gaurav Gupta of TOI, Suryakumar Yadav is all set to lead Mumbai in domestic white-ball tournaments. Suryakumar will be leading his side in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy 2026-27.

The right-hander has a good amount of leadership experience and has also won a T20 World Cup for India. He is arguably one of the best T20 batsmen of all time and the upcoming domestic season will be crucial for him.

The announcement of Suryakumar Yadav captain of Mumbai comes after Ajinkya Rahane retired from all forms of cricket last season. With Suryakumar not playing international cricket right now, he is expected to be available for the entire domestic season.

The performance of Suryakumar Yadav in domestic cricket would be key as he aims to push his case forward for the India comeback again. Despite winning T20 World Cup 2026 as a captain, he was dropped from the team just before India's next T20I assignement.

Suryakumar was replaced by Shreyas Iyer both as a batter as well as the captain in Indian T20I team. The premier batter was dropped from the side based on his form as he had been failing constantly for two years.
