Bhutan Cricket Team player Sonam Yeshey has achieved a massive feat in the history of the T20 format. He became the first-ever player in the shortest format of the game to take an eight-wicket haul in a match. Sonam Yeshey achieved the feat in the game against Myanmar on December 26, 2025.

The third T20I of the series between Bhutan and Myanmar took place at the Gelephu International Cricket Ground in Gelephu and saw history being scripted. Bhutan Cricketer Sonam Yeshey's incredible feat with the ball helped his team win the match by a massive margin of 82 runs. Not only this, it was the third straight win for the Bhutan Cricket Team in the ongoing five-match series against the Myanmar Cricket Team.

After being asked to bat first, Bhutan had a decent outing with the bat. They posted a total of 127 on the back of a half-century by keeper-batter Namgang Chejay (50). Opener Namgay Thinley (27) also played a vital hand as they posted a total close to 130. Then, with the ball, Sonam Yeshey oozed his class and was all over the opposition. He picked up eight wickets in a T20 match and created a world record, helping his team bundle out the opposition for 45 and winning the game by a big margin.

Sonam Yeshey returned with the figures of 8 for seven from his four overs, which is the best in the T20I cricket by any bowler. In the ongoing series too, he has been sensational and is the leading wicket-taker with 12 wickets to his name. Sonam Yeshey broke the records of Syazrul Idrus (7 for 8 for Malaysia against China in 2023) and Ali Dawood (7 for 19 for Bahrain against Bhutan in 2025) to register the best figures in T20I Cricket. He is now expected to stay at the top of the list for a while, as eight wickets don’t come easy to anyone, especially in T20Is, where even the best T20 bowlers have struggled to take this many wickets.
