The Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of the International Cricket Council (ICC) has alleged Cricket Canada of two corruption activities, one of which was during the game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka.
Was T20 World Cup 2026 Fixed? Canada Breaches ICC's Anti-Corruption Code
The reports claimed that Cricket Canada has breached ICC's anti-corruption code at the international and domestic levels. The allegations emerged in a documentary 'Corruption, Crime and Cricket', produced by The Fifth Estate, a Canadian investigative documentary programme.
The 43-minute documentary highlighted the corruption and governance at the Canada Cricket. It was revealed that the corruption occurred during the NZ vs CAN T20 World Cup 2026 match
The documentary revealed that corruption happened in the fifth over of New Zealand’s chase when captain Dilpreet Bajwa came to bowl. This came even after Saad bin Zafar and Dilon Heyliger took wickets in the last two overs. Bajwa started the over with a no-ball and then bowled a wide down the leg. He ended up giving 15 runs in the over, which came as a turning point in the game.
This was the same match in which the young Canada opener Yuvraj Samra scored a remarkable century for his team. Meanwhile, the performance of Canada in T20 World Cup wasn't quite up to the mark. They finished last in Group D after losing all their matches.
Canada Coach Khurram Chohan Under Scanner
The other investigation regarding the match fixing T20 World Cup 2026 has put Canada coach Khurram Chohan under the scanner. A phone call has been revealed in which he was claiming that a former Cricket Canada board member put pressure on him to select certain players to the national side.
"The ACU is aware of the programme broadcast by CBC," Andrew Ephgrave, interim General Manager of the ICC's Integrity Unit, said in a statement to ESPNCricinfo. Consistent with its established operating procedures, the ACU is not in a position to comment on the substance of any allegations contained within it.
The ICC will soon be taking action and this could land Cricket Canada in serious trouble. It remains to be seen how the investigation unfolds. If they are found to have breached the corruption code, there are chances that ICC might ban Cricket Canada.
