The left-hander had raced to 45 off 53 balls, striking nine fours, and appeared well on course for another half-century. However, Asitha Fernando brought his innings to an end in the 17th over, as Yashasvi Jaiswal's attempted punch resulted in an inside edge that crashed onto the stumps. The wicket gave Sri Lanka a timely breakthrough and left India at 66/2. However, what happened afterwards was unexpected.

The incident unfolded after Fernando dismissed Jaiswal in the 17th over of India's innings in SL vs IND 2nd Test. While celebrating the wicket, Fernando appeared to say something to the departing batter.

That prompted Jaiswal to stop and walk back towards the bowler. The two exchanged words, and the Yashasvi Jaiswal fight with Asitha Fernando quickly turned physical, with both players banging their hands against each other. Sri Lankan teammates intervened almost immediately and managed to calm things down.

The fiery exchange has indeed added a much-needed thrill to the ongoing Test in Colombo, with the video of the incident quickly spreading across social media.

Jaiswal Fails To Convert Another Good Start

An innings of 45 runs in Colombo continued a frustrating pattern for Jaiswal in the series. In the first Test at Galle, he had also failed to make the most of his starts, scoring 7 in the first innings and 9 in the second before India completed a 165-run victory. This time, however, there were far more signs of fluency by one of the best batsmen in India.

Jaiswal attacked Asitha Fernando and looked well placed to bring up a half-century. But after taking 12 runs from the first five balls of Fernando’s over, he fell off the final delivery when an inside edge crashed onto the stumps. He will hope to make a bigger impact when he returns to bat in the second innings. However, there could also be added pressure when he faces Fernando again, especially after their heated confrontation, which could reignite the tension between the two.
