The upcoming ODI series between Pakistan and Australia, set to be played at Lahore, will mark his final appearance in a cricket stadium. The series will be played at Gaddafi Stadium, one of the top cricket stadiums in Pakistan, which marks a perfect occasion for him to retire.

Although the upcoming ODIs will be his last cricket series that he will witness from a stadium, Chacha Cricket also hopes to cheer Pakistan during their three-match Test series in England. However, it is not confirmed yet.

After this news, the fans are wondering who is Chacha cricket and his contributions to Pakistan's game. It is to be noted that he has been cheering for Pakistan for decades now and has been a constant presence during their matches in the stadiums all over the globe.

Who is Chacha Cricket?

Abdul Jalil, famously known as Chacha Cricket, watched his first cricket match between Pakistan and England at the same Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore from where he will retire. It became a memorable experience for him and he continued the tradition for decades to come.

Dressed in the famous green kurta and a cap, Jalil created his own identity during Pakistan's matches in the 1980s and 1990s at Sharjah, a venue where they constantly played. The Men in Green had some of the best cricketers in the world in their team during that period. Being one of the top cricket team at that time, Pakistan won several matches at this iconic venue.

Abdul Jalil was always a cricket fan but initially, he juggled watching matches in the stadiums with his job. Later, he quit his job in the UAE and presented himself as Pakistan's full-time cricket fan. In 1999, he visited the United Kingdom to cheer for Pakistan in the World Cup. The team, led by Wasim Akram, played brilliantly but lost to Australia in a one-sided final.

Chacha Cricket Pakistan Fan Recalls His Fond Memories

A celebrity in Pakistan, Abdul Jalil has attended various tape-ball events, which is quite famous in the country. While speaking to ESPNCricinfo, this legendary Pakistan cricket fan remembered his younger days where he followed hte game passionately. Now, he wants to work towards charity.

“I have done everything for the sheer love of the game and my country. My mission has been to be a great ambassador of the country and make fans across the aisles happy. I am now also looking to do some welfare work after my retirement,” Jalil told ESPNCricinfo.

Apart from his fond memories, he also recalled the disappointment recent matches where Pakistan lost to arch-rivals India on a regular basis. He remembers the three defeats in the Asia Cup and also the T20 World Cup 2024, where Pakistan failed to chased down a target of 120 runs.

“I witnessed Pakistan's three consecutive defeats to India [in the Asia Cup last year]. We have now lost nine in a row to India. I did not want them to lose another match after the Asia Cup. They could not chase 120 against India at New York. I had travelled a great distance to support the team,” he added.

After Chacha Cricket retirement, it remains to be seen who supports Pakistan in the stadiums, although there are several to replace him. Abdul Jalil now aims to open a restaurant at Sialkot, his hometown. His retirement marks the end of an era in Pakistan cricket.
