Who Will Be Next UP Warriorz Captain for WPL 2026?

The focus is slowly turning towards the Women Premier League (WPL) 2026 as the tournament is all set to begin on January 7. The auction of the league took place recently and saw all the franchises picking some of the best women cricketers in the world.

All the franchises had a great time in the WPL 2026 auction and now it will depend how they execute their plans when the league begins. A few of the franchises have named their captains, however, UP Warriorz women are yet to announce it.

When Will UP Warriorz Announce Their Captain for WPL 2026?

With the Women's Premier League 2026 around the corner, many have been wondering who will be the UP Warriorz new captain in 2026. They have quite a few captaincy candidates and it remains to be seen who will take the onus for next season.

As per the reports in Times of India, it is learned that the UP Warriorz WPL captain will be announced on Monday, January 4. They have four potential candidates in Meg Lanning, Deepti Sharma, Phoebe Litchfield and Harleen Deol.

Last year, Deepti Sharma was the UP Warriorz captain and this came after Alyssa Healy was ruled out of the season. Deepti failed to make a mark as a captain and as a result, she was released from the side.

Who Will Be Next UP Warriorz Captain?

The WPL is one of the best women's cricket leagues in the world with some high level of competition. Deepti Sharma struggled to make a mark last year and they are unlikely to make the same mistake as last year. On the other hand, they also have Meg Lanning in the side.

Meg Lanning captained the Delhi Capitals Women in the last three WPL seasons and took the franchise to the three finals but failed to win the title. However, her being the World Cup-winning captain for Australia, she can be handed the leadership.

UP Warriorz will also have the option of going to the young guns in Phoebe Litchfield and Harleen Deol. Litchfield has been one of the finest youngsters in world cricket and is also touted as the future Australian captain.

She can be seen as a long-term prospect for UP Warriorz WPL captain. But with franchises giving preferences to Indian stars, Harleen Deol will be another option for them as she is also one of the exciting players in Indian cricket.

Harleen Deol, if given the opportunity, would be keen to make a mark and take the franchise to win. She was also part of the Indian squad for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 and would be carrying that confidence in WPL.
