Who Will Be Pakistan's New Test Captain After Shan Masood?

2 min
Shan Masood

Pakistan cricket team has suffered a humiliating 0-2 Test series loss against the home team Bangladesh. The defeat has come as a new low in Pakistan cricket and they are under severe pressure due to the deteriorating state of the red-ball format in the country.

After the loss, the person under the most pressure is none other than the current Test captain Shan Masood. The left-handed batter had a mediocre series with the bat and there were always questions marks regarding his captaincy.

This has even prompted Masood to resign from his role as Pakistan's Test captain, according to Geo News. Shan Masood resignation comes at a time when the team is under pressure and wholesale changes are expected for the next Test series.

Who Will Be Pakistan New Test Captain?

With Shan Masood set to resign, a new Test captain is set to be appointed by the chief selectors. There are several options within the team who can take up this role, however, Saud Shakeel is the frontrunner to become the new Pakistan Test captain.

Shakeel is currently the vice-captain of the team and has done well in Tests overall. The left-hander is a solid middle order batter who can play both pace and spin equally well. However, his recent form has been underwhelming, particularly the Test series against Bangladesh.

Shakeel managed just 29 runs across four innings at an average of only 7.25 in this series. During the BAN vs PAK 2nd Test, Shakeel registered scores of 8 and 6 across the two innings respectively as Pakistan lost the match. These performances will be considered by the selectors as they look for Pakistan new Test captain.
