The BCCI prize money for T20 World Cup 2026 - INR 131 Crore - is 6 crore more than the team received during the T20 World Cup 2024, where Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli played. This has made many wonder as to why Suryakumar Yadav got more than Rohit and Kohli.

The reason is that the prize money this time around is INR 131 crore, which is more than the previous edition. The T20 world cup 2024 prize money by the BCCI was INR 125 crore. The fact that there were no reserve players, so, players will be getting more prize money.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of INR 131 crore for Team India following their triumphant campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

India lifted the prestigious trophy after defeating New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, successfully defending the title and becoming the first team in the history of the tournament to retain the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. With this victory, India also became the first team to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup three times, further cementing their place among the most successful teams in the history of the format.

Suryakumar Yadav Achieves Unique Milestone

As India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, Suryakumar Yadav became only the fourth Indian captain to win the prestigious trophy. He joined the elite list, which features some of the best cricketers in the world like Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. MS Dhoni has notably won both the 50-over and 20-over World Cups as captain.

Ahead of the tournament, there were a lot of talks related to Suryakumar's leadership and form. However, he proved everyone wrong and ended up winning the title. The batter has now set the goal to win gold medal for India in the LA Olympics 2028.
