Why Dhruv Shorey is Not Playing Today in Vijay Hazare Trophy Final?

The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 is finally coming to an end, with the final match of the season being played between Vidarbha and Saurashtra at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1, Bengaluru, on Sunday, January 18. Both teams have had a fantastic run to the final while Vidarbha are also the runners-up of the last season.

Saurashtra won the toss and asked Vidarbha to put runs on the scoreboard. Both teams have some top-class players, who possess the ability to become the best cricketers in the world. However, the fans were surprised to see the star batter Dhruv Shorey missing out from the playing XI for the Vidarbha vs Saurashtra final.

Why Dhruv Shorey is Not Playing Today?

Vidarbha cricket team suffered a huge blow as their premier batter Dhruv Shorey injured himself on the eve of the Vijay Hazare Trophy final during a practice session. Skipper Harsh Dubey gave an update regarding his injury at the toss.

“Dhruv Shorey got injured unluckily yesterday, so he misses out and Mohammad Faiz makes his debut,” Dubey said at the toss.

As mentioned by Harsh, Mohammad Faiz has been named as Dhruv Shorey replacement for this big game. It is a big moment for the young left-hander who will be making his debut in the Vidarbha vs Saurashtra Vijay Hazare Trophy final. It remains to be seen how he handles the pressure of playing in such an important match.

Dhruv Shorey's Performance in VHT 2025-26

Vidarbha have had a brilliant tournament with star opener Aman Mokhade scoring the bulk of the runs. Mokhade is the highest run-scorer of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 with 781 runs in just nine matches at an impressive average of 97.62, including five centuries.

But Dhruv Shorey has also been consistent throughout the tournament, scoring 515 runs in nine matches at a staggering average of 73.57, including two centuries. Mokhade is an opening batter while Shorey has handled the middle order quite well. Being one of the best batsmen in India, he has lived up to the expectations this season.

Vidarbha will miss his services in the VHT final. They have already lost Aman Mokhade in the final but the other opener Atharva Taide smashed a magnificent century to light up the stage. Vidarbha look on course for a big total in the all-important final.
