Prabath Jayasuriya demerit points incident is not the first one of this game. Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando were handed demerit points after they breached the ICC Code of Conduct when they were involved in a physical altercation.

The controversy happened on the first day of the match when Asitha Fernando dismissed Jaiswal and said a few words to him. Jaiswal turned back and walked aggressive towards the fast bowler before hitting Fernando with his helmet. Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva later acted as a mediator and separated both of them.
