New Zealand have announced their squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against India, with Mitchell Santner set to lead the side. The Black Caps have named a strong 16-member squad featuring several established stars and some returning names.

However, there is one notable omission from the group that is likely to attract attention ahead of the series as star all-rounder Rachin Ravindra was seen missing from the squad. This has prompted the Kiwis to make a forced change in their squad for the India T20Is.

Why Rachin Ravindra Is Not In NZ Squad For India Series?

Rachin Ravindra has been ruled out of New Zealand’s upcoming five-match T20I series against India after suffering a right shoulder dislocation during a promotional shoot. The 26-year-old all-rounder sustained the injury in Auckland on September 16. While scans reportedly showed no major structural damage, his rehabilitation is expected to take around six weeks.

New Zealand head coach Rob Walter confirmed Rachin Ravindra injury and that the team is taking a cautious approach with him. The all-rounder now targeting a return for the three-match ODI series against India, which begins on November 4.

“We’re gutted for Rachin. He’s going to play a big role for us this summer so it’s important that he doesn’t rush his rehab, but we’re optimistic he’ll be back for the ODIs,” Walter said.

Ravindra has been an important part of New Zealand’s white-ball setup and was also involved in their 2026 T20 World Cup campaign. He is arguably one of the best batsmen in the world across formats. His absence leaves New Zealand without one of their key batting all-rounders for the T20I series.

New Zealand Pick Strong Squad For India T20Is

Despite no Rachin Ravindra, NZ T20I squad against India looks strong with some of the most dangerous batsmen in the world in it. The onus will now be on the likes of Finn Allen, Daryl Mitchell, and Mark Chapman to lead the batting charge.

The bowling attack will be led by the pacer Matt Henry. He will be accompanied by Jacob Duffy, Lockie Ferguson and the captain Mitchell Santner himself. Overall, it is expected to be a high-scoring series between two sides that can play aggressive cricket.

The T20I series will be followed by three ODIs, beginning November 4. New Zealand will hope Ravindra can complete his rehabilitation in time to feature in that series, while India will look to make the most of his absence during the T20I leg.
