Why Vaibhav Suryavanshi is Not Playing Bihar vs UP Ranji Trophy Match? Explained

India's teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made rapid strides over the past year, which has also earned him an international debut. Despite his batting exploits with the white ball, Suryavanshi's performances in red-ball cricket have been underwhelming so far.

The ongoing Ranji Trophy season is expected to be crucial for the youngster and he will be eager to prove his red-ball credentials. However, he is not a part of the team for the Bihar vs UP Ranji Trophy match.

Why Vaibhav Suryavanshi is Not Playing Today in Bihar vs UP Match?

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is not playing Bihar's opening match of the Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season against Uttar Pradesh at the Rajgir International Cricket Stadium due to his international commitments. The left-hander is a part of India's ongoing T20I series against West Indies.

Earlier, Bihar had already announced that Suryavanshi will not be a part of the team for the first two matches of the season due to his international commitments. The 15-year-old has become an integral part of India's T20I set-up, although he is still not a regular in the playing 11.

Suryavanshi's absence is likely to affect Bihar as they looked forward to him leading the team's batting line-up. The youngster is already one of the most famous cricketers in the world, and his presence would have made a massive impact on the crowd's turnout.

Important Ranji Trophy Season For Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Under the leadership of Sakibul Gani, Bihar will be looking to continue their good form from last season's Plate Group. Till the time Suryavanshi becomes available in this season's Ranji Trophy, Bihar openers in Ranji Trophy 2026-27 are likely to be Piyush Singh and Mangal Mahrour.

This is likely to remain unchanged until Suryavanshi takes his place back. Despite his massive white-ball success, this season is going to be crucial for Vaibhav Suryavanshi in terms of his red-ball future.

The 15-year-old is already seen as one of the best batsmen in the world for future due to his talent. He has already played for India A in red-ball cricket despite modest numbers. It shows the selectors' faith in him as they look forward to groom him for all the formats.
