Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood Out of T20 World Cup 2026? Here's the Latest Update

The preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 are on as the teams have started their preparations for the mega event. The tournament will be played in India and Sri Lanka and will run from February 7 to March 8.

Coming to the Australian Cricket Team, they will be one of the hot favourites to win the title. They recently announced the squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 but had some concerns as a few of the premier players were injured but named in the team.

The likes of Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, who missed the major part of Ashes 2025-26, were named in the squad. While Cummins, who played one game in the Ashes, has been recovering from a back injury, Hazlewood has been struggling with a hamstring and Achilles injury.

Right-arm quick Josh Hazlewood will be available for the entire T20 World Cup 2026 and this will act as a massive boost for the Australian side. Hazlewood is a quality bowler and a genuine wicket-taker in the format. He can bowl both with the new ball as well as in the slog overs.

Hazlewood also has plenty of experience of playing in India due to his regular IPL commitments. In the absence of Mitchell Starc, he is likely to lead the attack since he is also one of the best T20 bowlers in the world.

Josh Hazlewood was also a part of RCB's title winning run in IPL 2025. The fast bowler had played a key role for his team on pitches that were batting-friendly.

Will Pat Cummins Play T20 World Cup 2026?

For Pat Cummins, they will have to wait as the Australia Test and ODI captain won’t be available for the entire event. Cummins will miss the first half of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 as he still needs some time to get fully fit. He will link up with the Australia squad for the latter half of the tournament, which will be a boost for Australia as they look favourites to qualify for the semi-final.

Also, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins will be missing the T20I series against Pakistan. Australia will lock horns with Men in Green in a three-match series before the T20 World Cup 2026 as part of preparation for the event.

Australia Aiming for Second T20 World Cup Title

Australia won the T20 World Cup last in 2021 under the leadership of Aaron Finch. They had a poor outing last time around as they bowed out after losing to India in the Super Six stage. But this time around, they would be hoping to turn the things around.

Under the leadership of Mitchell Marsh, Australia is one of the best T20 teams in the world and will be a force to reckon with in the T20 World Cup 2026. They are placed in Group B of the tournament along with Sri Lanka, Ireland, Zimbabwe and Oman. They will begin their campaign against Ireland on February 11 and will play their first two league games in Colombo and their next two in Pallekele.
