ICC Women's World Cup 2025 India Squad: Key Inclusions and Exclusions

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India's squad for the upcoming ICC Women's World Cup 2025. The tournament is set to start on September 30, 2025. The selectors have released a 15-member squad for the tournament. While the inclusion of players like the captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Deepti Sharma was predictable, the selectors have picked up some in-form players like Shreyanka Patil, Kranti Goud, and Pratika Rawal. Two of the talented players, Renuka Singh and Amanjot Kaur, were suffering from injuries but have successfully made it into the team.

Apart from that, the selectors have picked up Harleen Deol as well. The opening looks strong with options like Smriti Mandhana and Rawal. The players are in form and are reliable as well. Shafali Verma Misses Out of the ICC Women's World Cup 2025

India's opener Shafali Verma was not included in India's squad for the upcoming World Cup 2025. She played her last series against Australia A and scored a half-century in the last match. However, the selection committee didn't give any specific reason as to why she couldn't make it into the team. “Shafali played the Australia A series. She’s in the system, not like she’s not. We’ve got our eyes on her. Hope she plays a lot more and garners experience, it’ll help India in the 50-overs format,” said Neetu David at the press conference.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur spoke about the balance the Indian team have in the bowling department as they have some talented players like Kranti Goud, Renuka Thakur, Shree Charani, Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, and Radha Yadav. They are the strongest bowling unit for India, and since the tournament is in the sub-continent, it would be wonderful to watch them play.

After the end of the meeting, Captain Harmanpreet mentioned that they had a brief meeting. “This was the shortest meeting we’ve had, hopefully it’ll be the best meeting too.” There are not many changes from the previous series, as the selectors wanted to go forward with the same set of players. For the Australia series, Renuka Thakur will miss out as she is in the Excellence Centre and is recovering from her injury. Despite being in the squad, she is rested. “She’s one of the important players, she’s at the Centre of Excellence, working on a few small niggles. We’ve rested her for the Australia series so that she can fully be available for the World Cup,” said Harmanpreet Kaur at the press conference.
