Now, the left-arm pacer has suffered another major setback that could push back his growing international career. Yash Dayal, who had also reached closer to receiving his international cap, has been stopped from taking part in the UP T20 League, which is the premier 20-over competition in Uttar Pradesh.
Yash Dayal UP T20 League Ban
Yash Dayal, who is one of the best Indian bowlers in the domestic circuit at the moment, is a part of Gorakhpur Lions in this season of UP T20 League. The team signed him up for INR 7 lakh in the UP T20 League auction earlier this year. However, according to Dainik Jagran, the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) has barred him from playing in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League. The decision is linked to the legal cases registered against him related to sexual harassment.
These developments have now cast doubt over his future in the tournament. While reports claim the UPCA has barred him, there is still uncertainty. Vishesh Gaur, the owner of Gaur Sons, which owns the Gorakhpur Lions franchise, says the team has not received any official communication from the UPCA.
Gaur stated that no letter or notice about Dayal’s ban has been shared with the team so far. This has created confusion about whether the pacer will actually be stopped from playing.
What is Yash Dayal Case?
The controversy began after a woman from Ghaziabad accused Yash Dayal of rape. She filed a First Information Report (FIR) against him. The first FIR was registered on July 6 at Indirapuram police station in Ghaziabad district. It was filed under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This section deals with sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means, such as false promises of marriage.
The complainant says she met Dayal about five years ago. According to her, Dayal promised to marry her. She claims that he kept postponing marriage over the years. Later, she found out that he was also involved with other women.
Notably, Dayal has denied the allegations. He filed a petition challenging the FIR. In his petition, he argued that a person can be charged under Section 69 only if it is proven that he promised to marry without ever intending to do so. He has requested the court to stop his arrest in the case. He has also asked for the FIR to be quashed.
Dayal maintains that the accusations are false. His legal team is trying to prove that the complaint does not meet the legal requirements for the offence mentioned in the FIR.
Dayal’s career is now under a cloud. The 27-year old’s career highlight came when he joined RCB in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Yash Dayal RCB career has been nothing short of a fairytale but the latest incident has badly affected his growth. The UP T20 League was another chance for him to showcase his skills. But the legal trouble could prevent him from playing.
If the UPCA confirms the ban, Dayal will miss a major domestic tournament. It could also affect his chances in future competitions. For now, the case is still in court. The next hearing is expected soon. Whether Dayal will play for Gorakhpur Lions still remains unclear.
