Najmul Hossain Shanto Career began with his cricket training at Clemon Rajshahi Cricket Academy. The academy was over 20 miles away from his home, so he would cycle and walk there every day. The former Bangladesh captain made his Twenty20 (T20) debut in November 2016, for Comilla Victorians in the 2016-17 Bangladesh Premier League. In December 2017, he and Mizanur Rahman scored 341 runs as the highest opening partnership in a domestic first-class match in Bangladesh.
He played for Rajshahi Division against Dhaka Metropolis in the 2017-18 National Cricket League. Najmul Hossain Shanto scored the most runs in the 2017-18 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, totalling 749 in 16 games. In November 2016, he was nominated to a 22-man preparation team to practice in Australia ahead of Bangladesh's tour of New Zealand.
