Afghanistan generally prefer to bat first and will look to do so unless it is a shortened game. So, in all likelihood Afghanistan will have bat first unless rain cuts short the game. Expect Australia to overhaul the target set by Afghanistan.

Afghanistan and England have only played 4 ODIs against each other and all of them have been won by Australia. Afghanistan have never beaten Australia in ODIs. The closest they came was in the 2023 World Cup in India when they had the Aussies reeling at 91/7 only for Glenn Maxwell to produce one of the best ODI innings ever and take Australia home in a run chase of 292.

Those scars would still be fresh in the Afghanistan camp but skipper Shahidi has mentioned that they are not focusing only on Maxwell but have plans for others as well. On the other occasions when Australia met Afghanistan, they were able to easily brush them aside and registered some convincing victories against them.
