Afghanistan are playing in the Champions Trophy for the first time, so there is not a lot of numbers to analyze or look at as far as they go. They have thus far played two games in Champions Trophy out of which they have won one toss with a toss win percentage of 50%.
Australia, on the other hand, have played 26 matches in the history of Champions Trophy so far. In those 26 matches, they won 12 tosses, with the percentage of tosses winning at 46%, while their number of matches won was also 12.
However, it does not mean that they have always won every match when they have won the toss. As the table suggests, Australia have won 6 out of 12 matches (50%) when they have won the toss while they have also won 4 out of 12 matches (33.3%) when they have lost the toss.

Both these teams have met four times, thrice at the 50-over World Cups from 2015 to 2023, with two of them being in neutral venues while the 2015 was an away game for Afghanistan with Australia hosting the World Cup. Today’s Match Toss Prediction
If we look at the history of the tosses between these two teams in the ODI format, neutral venues have tended to favor Afghanistan with the toss. However, Australia’s only toss win against Afghanistan has also come in a neutral venue. Our prediction is that Australia will win the toss.
With cloudy conditions expected throughout the day at Gaddafi Stadium coupled with the fact that Australia chased down 352 against England just a few days back, Australia would like to bowl first after winning the toss. Afghanistan generally prefer to bat first and will look to do so unless it is a shortened game. So, in all likelihood Afghanistan will have bat first unless rain cuts short the game. Expect Australia to overhaul the target set by Afghanistan.

AFG vs AUS Head to Head
Afghanistan and England have only played 4 ODIs against each other and all of them have been won by Australia. Afghanistan have never beaten Australia in ODIs. The closest they came was in the 2023 World Cup in India when they had the Aussies reeling at 91/7 only for Glenn Maxwell to produce one of the best ODI innings ever and take Australia home in a run chase of 292.
Those scars would still be fresh in the Afghanistan camp but skipper Shahidi has mentioned that they are not focusing only on Maxwell but have plans for others as well. On the other occasions when Australia met Afghanistan, they were able to easily brush them aside and registered some convincing victories against them.
