Diogo Jota's Legacy Lives On with the FC Pro World Championship Trophy

It's been a year since one of the decorated wingers of the Premier League was involved in a tragic car accident with his brother on 3rd July, 2025. And EA Sports is all set to honour Diogo Jota's legacy as this day marks the one-year death anniversary. The prestigious EA Sports tournament will be renamed the FC Pro Diogo Jota World Championship Trophy.

As surprising as it might be, Liverpool's #20 was once a great EA FC (earlier FIFA) professional and was top in his region. And EA Sports took no time to honour this legendary winger's legacy with his family's blessing. The trophy will be lifted this summer, at the Esports World Cup 2026 stage in Paris.

EA FC Immortalises Jota's Legacy With Its Biggest Tournament

As discussed, today's date (July 3, 2026) marks the first death anniversary of Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva. While both were quite decorated footballers at their respective clubs, their fate took a tragic turn. One year ago on this very day, they died in an unfortunate car accident while returning from Liverpool's pre-season training.

Apart from being a star winger, Liverpool's #20 was quite good at the EA FC title too. And EA Sports plans to keep the EA FC Pro's legacy alive. That's why they renamed their prestigious trophy the FC Pro Diogo Jota World Championship Trophy.

For context, Jota became the #1 player in the FIFA 21 Ultimate Team Leaderboard during the COVID-19 Lockdown with a 30-0 record. He even had his very own eSports team, named Diogo Jota esports. The #20 was even best known for his iconic controller-in-his-hands celebration. After doing so much during his lifetime, it was quite evident that EA Sports had to tribute his legacy somehow.

That's why renaming their prestigious trophy to the Diogo Jota FC Pro World Championship Trophy should be the ideal move. They even promised to work closely with Jota's family and find meaningful ways to implement updates to honour his legacy.

With the Pro World Championship LCQ starting from July 9, 2026, it'll be a wait for a few weeks. According to @EASPORTSFC, the renamed trophy will be lifted on July 26, 2026.

Diogo Jota Might Receive A Hero Card in FC 27

Apparently, renaming Diogo Jota FC Pro World Championship Trophy wasn't the ultimate move for EA Sports authority. According to @FutSheriff, the Portuguese might receive a Hero card in the upcoming EA FC title, FC 27. And it's likely to possess 88 OVR.
