D-Day is finally here as EA Sports dropped its much-awaited FC 27 trailer. Everyone's familiar face, and the FIFA World Cup 2026 Golden Boot winner, Kylian Mbappe, is the cover star this year. Before the title hits the market globally on September 25, 2026, we've got a good look at the major tweaks on the trailer. EA did a great job making these huge changes to its gameplay, introducing The Grounds (an open world), more licensed clubs, and several other things.

FC 27 Trailer Teases Massive Gameplay Changes And The Grounds Mode

The two-and-a-half-minute FC 27 trailer was enough to create hype in the community. What started with a couple of easter eggs grew into a full-blown reveal campaign with the final trailer. The rumours from the past couple of months have finally come to life as EA Sports confirmed The Grounds mode. Similar to the concept of the NBA titles, the gaming community can make their own characters and go around the city to write their own story. And surprisingly, everyone can have Kylian Mbappe's guidance as he'll be the primary ground mentor.

The statue of Zinedine Zidane and the Zlatan Ibrahimovic mural are the most exciting parts of it. Apart from that, EA also implemented detailed FC 27 gameplay mechanics and new PlayStyles to break the usual EA FC meta. Meanwhile, everyone's favourite Alex Hunter from the FIFA 19 career mode is returning. This time, however, he's an NPC character. Gamers can have an exciting time as he'll be a Ground Mentor. Moreover, Ted Lasso and his club, Richmond FC, will also be available in the game after FIFA 23. Enough with the easter eggs, let's break down the trailer bit by bit:

FC 27 The Grounds Mode

The Grounds Mode is certainly the biggest change of them all. As discussed, gamers can write their own story as they can freely roam around the city. In case anyone loses their way, Kylian Mbappe will be there as a mentor to guide them through their journey. FIFA 19 Career mode star Alex Hunter will also make a cameo to help the talismanic Frenchman.

Different turfs, like Parkside District, Montclair District, Zeiza District, and others, will be available. Each player comprises a certain level, and they can even pull off all the Ultimate Team gameplay moves on the turf.

FC 27 Gameplay

Now, this is another major change that Ultimate Team players have been looking for. EA Sports just made the gameplay even more realistic. The developers made some AI defending tweaks that will affect the current meta. Meanwhile, a defending aspect named Control Advantage has also been implemented where the AI will extend its defending range to intercept the ball from the opponent.

On the other hand, attacking AIs have also been improved as the devs implemented Offside Avoidance, Pass & Follow, Faster One-Twos, and Curved Underlap to catch the opponent's defenders off-guard. Meanwhile, the set pieces have been changed, as devs have introduced 2-phase corner kicks. Finally, EA has also introduced Dynamic OVRs in the career mode.

FC 27 Return of Alex Hunter and Ted Lasso

EA brought back nostalgia for FIFA 19 and Richmond FC fans. Much like Richmond FC's comeback, the Ted Lasso “BELIEVE” sign might be a sign for better future updates from the developers. Even though we haven't received much information about it, Richmond FC and our favourite American moustache man might be a part of the FC 27 Career Mode.

Talking about career mode, FIFA 19 career mode star Alex Hunter is back once again. Unfortunately, he'll not be a playable character this time. He, however, will take on a much more important role, and that is The Grounds Mentor.

How to Pre-Order FC 27 on Different Platforms

EA FC fans across the world can pre-order FC 27 on their respective digital webstores. From the PlayStation Store to the Steam platform, they can purchase all three editions: Standard, Ultimate, and Ultimate+, starting today, July 23, 2026. While Standard edition buyers can access the game from September 25, owners of the two editions can access it a week earlier, September 19, 2026.
