Konami’s eFootball is a realistic, free-to-play soccer simulation (the successor to PES) featuring licensed clubs and custom “Dream Teams.” Developed by Konami and first released on September 30, 2021, it rebranded the Pro Evolution Soccer series into a live-service format. eFootball is free on all platforms (in-app purchases optional). Players compete by outscoring opponents in soccer matches; the game updates each “season” with new events and features tied to real-world football.

What is eFootball?

eFootball is Konami’s free-to-play online soccer game, the successor to the Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) series. Unlike the annual paid PES games, eFootball is a live-service title that offers both Authentic Team modes (using real clubs/national teams) and Dream Team modes (building custom squads). In each match, you control a team of players (real or custom) to score more goals than your opponent. eFootball Format

Gameplay scenes (above) illustrate how eFootball matches play out, with realistic dribbling and defense on the pitch. The game features two broad categories of play. Authentic Team (often called Exhibition or Quick Match) lets you control real licensed clubs or national teams against AI or friends. Dream Team (formerly MyClub)

In Dream Team, you build and manage a squad of players you sign from the transfer list. You start by creating a base team from available clubs or nations, then use GP/eFootball Coins to “sign” players (current stars or legends) to improve it. Dream Team is all about constructing the strongest lineup. You participate in online leagues and events (like seasonal tournaments) to earn rewards and climb ranks. The objective is to continually upgrade your squad and compete at higher divisions – eFootball’s version of FIFA Ultimate Team.

Trial Match & Events

Trial Match (now often called Exhibition) is the offline mode for playing with licensed teams. Here, you can use any available club or national squad to play single matches or friend matches versus the AI. It’s a way to practice with real teams or earn GP through offline play.

Events: eFootball regularly runs Events (time-limited challenges). These include Tour Events (play against AI under special conditions) and Challenge Events (PvP brackets or knockouts). For example, during a major tournament, eFootball might offer an Event themed around that competition – players can enter those matches to win bonus GP, Coins, or special player signings. Limited-time Campaigns (like an AFC Asian Cup event) have also given out free players and login rewards in celebration of real-world soccer tournaments.

Co-op and Online PvP

Online multiplayer includes Quick Match and Friend Match modes. Quick Match pairs you in a casual 1v1 online game (doesn’t affect rankings). Friend Matches lets you create custom online rooms – you can play 1v1 up to 3v3 co-op against other players. In co-op matches, friends can team up (2v2 or 3v3) to take on others online. These modes allow flexible online play with others and support up to 6 players (3 vs 3). The main goal is simply to win online matches; some special PvP Events also rank players on a leaderboard for extra rewards.

eFootball League

The eFootball League is a ranked, division-based league mode. Your Dream Team competes in seasons to climb up divisions. Each division (from 5 up to 1) offers GP and coin rewards, and advancing to higher ranks grants better payouts. The objective is to reach Division 1 to become the top-ranked player. This is the primary competitive ladder in Dream Team mode.

Limited-Time Campaigns and Challenges

During real-world soccer seasons, Konami runs special campaigns. For instance, in late 2023 there was an “AFC Asian Cup” campaign offering unique “Chance Deals” and free Epic players from Asian nations. Such campaigns provide themed content (special player pools, bonus signings) that last only a few weeks. Separately, the Challenge Events and Tour Events (as mentioned) are essentially the time-limited tournaments in Dream Team. These challenge series (either PvP brackets or multi-round matchups) give players additional objectives and prizes.

eFootball Currency

eFootball uses three main currencies:

• GP (Game Points): A free in-game currency earned by playing matches, completing objectives, match passes, and login bonuses. GP is used for basic player and manager signings and some events.
• eFootball™ Coins: A premium currency (purchased with real money, though small amounts can be won in special events). Coins are mainly used for signing high-rated (often special or limited) players in the Dream Team.
• eFootball™ Points: A special currency obtained through linking your KONAMI ID to any platform and participating in promotional campaigns. Points can be exchanged for player signings, training items, or cosmetic items.

GP and Coins are both required to sign players and managers, so they are spent on Dream Team upgrades. eFootball Points likewise can “sign” players or be traded for gear. In short, earn GP by playing matches and hitting daily/weekly objectives; earn Coins mostly by purchase (and occasional free grants from campaigns); earn Points via special promotions and account linking. All currency flows back into improving your team through player signings, training, and other club management.

Tips for New Players in eFootball

• Complete the Tutorial: The in-game tutorial teaches basic controls and even rewards you. (Completing it once gives a free Lionel Messi card!) This is the fastest way to get a top player for your Dream Team.
• Master Basic Skills: Spend time in Training mode to practice passing, dribbling, and shooting. Good ball control and passing under pressure are crucial in matches.
