FPL Blank and Double Gameweek Guide 2025/26

We are getting ready for a new Fantasy Premier League season, as the 2025-26 Premier League is just a few weeks away from beginning. Talking about the exciting Fantasy Premier League, the FPL blank gameweek and FPL double gameweek are two important chapters, and the newcomers must know about them before beginning their journey.

FPL Blank Gameweek

Although we have a primary schedule of the complete Premier League 2025/26, it is updated every month. Most of the PL matchdays will be announced later, depending on various situations.

We are now seeing every team’s fixture in all 38 gameweeks in the PL 2025/26 season. However, due to various reasons, there can be situations when some teams may need to skip their fixtures. It can be due to clashes with their other competition’s fixtures (mostly with domestic cups) or failing to organise the game due to very rough weather or any other significant reasons.

We generally see 10 matches in a PL gameweek, as each of the 20 teams features in the tournament. If one (it also means that another team will surely miss the gameweek) or more teams miss their matches in a gameweek, the gameweek runs with fewer than 10 matches. As some teams are unavailable for the gameweek, it is a blank for the teams, and it is known as the FPL blank gameweek.

FPL Double Gameweek

FPL double gameweek is actually a byproduct of the blank gameweek. As the teams miss their primary scheduled match, the fixtures will be reassigned to an existing gameweek, where the teams will have to play two matches in a week. As some teams have double matches in the gameweek, it is known as the FPL double gameweek.

Possible FPL Blank Gameweeks and FPL Double Gameweeks for the 2025/26 season

As the FA Cup schedule has been changed since the last season, as its quarter-finals have their own separate calendar, there are fewer blank gameweeks, which also leads to fewer double gameweeks in a season.

Why are Blank Gameweeks and Double Gameweeks Important for FPL Managers?

The blank gameweeks and double gameweeks are important for the FPL managers, as these are among the great times for them to utilise the unused FPL chip. The blank gameweek is a good time for the FPL managers to utilise their “Free Hit” chip by eliminating their blank players for a single gameweek without losing them for the rest of the season. Although it can be done with the “Wildcard” chip, the previous team can’t return automatically, like the “Free Hit” chip. With the “Free Hit” chip, the FPL manager can put out the in-form player with a blank fixture for a gameweek.

On the other hand, the FPL managers can effectively work with any unused chip in the double gameweek, but most importantly with “Triple Captain.” If the captain has two fixtures in the double gameweek, the “Triple Captain” chip can bring huge points in the case of a successful journey.

However, it isn’t our only suggestion to utilise the “Triple Captain” chip in the best possible way, because the double gameweek generally happens late in the season, and workload management becomes a big concern for the important and in-form players in that period. According to the fixture difficulties, the big name can even be rested at least for one match in the double gameweek.

Also, talking about the chip, the FPL managers must remember that the FPL 2025/26 season will have two sets of chips with all four chips in each set, one for the first half of the season without any possibilities for carry forward, and the other one for the second half of the season.
