The CONCACAF Gold Cup is the premier football tournament in North and Central America, including the Caribbean region. Held approximately every two years, the tournament also occasionally invites a guest nation from outside the region. Historically, Mexico has established itself as the dominant force of this tournament. However, in recent decades, the USA has proved itself a formidable rival, consistently closing the gap and proving its presence on the continental stage.
The CONCACAF Gold Cup is one of prestigious trophies in the North, and Central America, including the Caribbean region, held in approximately two years, before 1991 it was the CONCACAF Champions Cup and after introduction of the new format in 1991, the first tournament was held by the USA and the home team won the tournament that year. After the edition, Mexico made a record of winning the trophy thrice, in three back to back seasons. For now, Mexico has won the CONCACAF Gold Cup nine times and the USA has won the trophy seven times, including Canada the nation won the trophy only once.
