How many games will Isi Palazón be suspended? Reason Revealed

Summary

  • RFEF revealed the punishment of Isi Palazon.
  • The Spanish playmaker is hit with a hefty ban.

RFEF laid down the marker on Wednesday with a couple of historic rulings. Punishing Rayo Vallecano's Isi Palazon, the board dished out the longest bans in La Liga's history, surpassing Sergio Ramos' 5-match ban from 2013. Discover what led to the epic Isi Palazon suspension and how long Isi Palazon is banned for.

What is the length of Isi Palazon's ban?

Isi Palazon is banned for seven games from La Liga. The RFEF Disciplinary Committee announced the sanctions after the 32nd gameweek in the top flight. The seven-game suspension includes a one-game suspension due to the yellow card accumulation, two games due to a red card, and four games due to the insults hurled at the referee, Jose Luis Guzman, after the Rayo Vallecano vs Real Sociedad game.

The ban means Palazon will now miss the remaining five games of the current La Liga campaign, along with the opening two encounters of the next season. Currently in 11th position with 39 points, they will be without their number seven for the European fight.

Palazon wasn't the only one on RFEF's bad books, as Esteban Andrada was also hit with a 13-match ban for punching Pulido in the Segunda Division clash between Huesca and Zaragoza.

What was the reason for Isi Palazon's suspension?

Isi Palazon started a crucial league encounter between Rayo Vallecano and Real Sociedad. Both sides were involved in a fight for European places, and not an inch was given or taken easily. Palazon was booked in the 29th minute and was in line to serve a one-match suspension. As the game was in Sociedad's favour at 2-1, Palazon was substituted in the 68th minute. But that was just the beginning of the story. Pedro Diaz seemingly equalised for Vallecano, making it 2-2, but the VAR cancelled the goal and awarded a penalty to Real Sociedad for a foul in the buildup to the cancelled goal.

Despite Sociedad making it 3-1, Vallecano hit back late in the game through Florian Lejeune and Alemao to make it 3-3. Adrenaline was running high as Alemao was shown a yellow card for aggressive celebration. As the referee blew his full-time whistle, things got out of hand as Palazon entered the pitch and had plenty of gestures and words for the referee.

He saw a red card for protesting the referee's earlier actions, and according to the referee in the match report, he was caught saying “'You are a scoundrel', accompanying this expression with the gesture of pointing at me with his index finger," at the referee.
