Khalid Jamil Appointed as New Head Coach of Indian Men's Football Team

Following weeks of speculation, former Indian national team player Khalid Jamil has been appointed as the new head coach of the senior Indian football team. The 48-year-old, who is currently managing ISL outfit Jamshedpur FC, will be replacing Manolo Marquez as the new harbinger of hope in Indian football. Jamil was among several other candidates shortlisted for the role, including the fan-favourite former India coach Stephen Constantine.

Jamil's appointment as head coach was announced by the All India Football Federation via an official statement on X, which read as follows:
“The AIFF Executive Committee, in the presence of the Technical Committee, has approved the appointment of Khalid Jamil as the new head coach of the Senior India Men's National Team.”

Khalid Jamil Contract Details

After all the drama surrounding the appointment of the next head coach of the Indian National Football Team, which included a fake application of Xavi Hernandez, came to an end after the technical committee of AIFF selected Khalid Jamil as the successor of Manolo Marquez. However, there was some confusion regarding the term of Khalid Jamil as the head coach of the national side. A few speculated that the ex-Jamshedpur manager would join the national team as the interim coach, and some said the contract is full-time.

On August 1st, AIFF confirmed that they are going with Khalid Jamil as the next head coach of the Indian men's national team, but it took around 10 days for both parties to reach the final agreement after all the negotiations. According to sources close to AIFF, it is said that Jamil has now signed the two-year contract with a provision to extend further.
