Neymar Jr Injury Update: Is Brazil Star Fit for 2026 World Cup?

Brazilian superstar Neymar has once again become the center of concern ahead of a major international tournament after missing Brazil’s first training session due to a calf problem. The 34-year-old forward, who recently returned from multiple injury setbacks, is now facing fresh doubts regarding his availability for Brazil’s opening fixture of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The concern comes just days after Neymar publicly dismissed rumors about his fitness. While attending Santos’ Copa Sudamericana clash against Deportivo Cuenca earlier this week, the veteran forward reacted sharply when questioned about an injury issue, replying: “What problem?”

However, reports later confirmed that Neymar has been dealing with a swollen calf, an issue serious enough to keep him out of Santos’ previous three matches. Brazil national football team’s medical staff reportedly sent him for additional examinations after he arrived at the Granja Comary training complex, but he failed to participate in on-field activities.

Neymar Jr Injury & Return Date Latest

According to early medical assessments, Neymar is suffering from a Grade 2 calf injury, which could reportedly sideline him for around two to three weeks. If accurate, that timeline puts his participation in Brazil’s World Cup opener against the Morocco national football team in serious doubt.

Despite the injury scare, Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti still included Neymar in his provisional squad. However, the Italian tactician remained cautious regarding Neymar’s role, suggesting the forward may start, come off the bench, or potentially miss matches depending on his recovery.

Neymar has not started a competitive international fixture since suffering an ACL injury against Uruguay in October 2023. Since the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Brazil’s all-time leading scorer has earned only limited appearances for the national side.
