What’s New in the Premier League Ball? Design, Features & Comparison

What's New in Premier League Ball?
The newly introduced Premier League ball will be seen in action for the PL's summer series pre-season in July and then for the 2025-2026 season, which will kick off on August 16. Fans are already familiar with Puma's match ball since it was quite the centre of controversy last year, which arose in Arsenal's first-leg defeat to eventual winners Newcastle in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. Arsenal had managed to get 23 shots on goal but eventually lost 2-0, and manager Mikel Arteta had some opinions regarding the football. He stated that:
We kicked a lot of balls over the bar, and it's tricky that these balls fly a lot. It's just different. It's very different to the Premier League ball and you have to adapt to that. It flies different when you touch it, the grip is very different as well so you have to adapt to that.
A year later, Puma has taken over the helm and will provide the match ball for the 2025-2026 season in the Premier League.
Have a look at the Premier League's Chief Commercial Officer, Will Brass's, official statement:
The launch of the new ball, which will be seen in play for the first time during the Premier League Summer Series, marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter,' We are thrilled to welcome PUMA as a key partner in our efforts to enhance the Premier League, both on and off the pitch.
What is the cost of Premier League Ball?
The Puma Orbita Ultimate is priced at approximately £130 or USD 160, which is similar to the pricing of other top-tier footballs.
What Makes the Premier League Ball Design Unique?
The Puma Orbita Ultimate is a football that showcases a mix of white, coral, and black colours inspired by street and pop art elements. The ball's panel construction is a 12-panel design to enhance flight stability and reduce the amount of water it absorbs. It is equipped with a POE foam and a PAL (Puma Air Lock) valve for better air retention.
What's New in the 2025 Premier League Match Ball Compared to Last Season?
The biggest obvious change is the introduction of Puma's sponsored Premier League match ball, switching from Nike, which will give a different feel and performance dynamic. The 3D textured surface offers a distinguished grip compared to Nike's ball, which had a different surface pattern. Nike's flight ball had four fused panels for better swerve & accuracy, whereas Puma's Orbita Ultimate has 12 thermally bonded panels for consistent flight and better air retention.
