Following a thorough probe, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has formally charged five rapes and one count of sexual assault against former Arsenal and Ghana international midfielder Thomas Partey. The allegations concern three different women and reported incidents said to have taken place between 2021 and 2022. To appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on August 5, the 32-year-old footballer's contract with Arsenal expires on June 30, 2025.

What Are the Charges Against Thomas Partey?

Thomas Partey rape cases, combining his six offenses, were approved by the Crown Prosecution Service. Two rapes against one complainant, three rapes against a second complainant, and one sexual assault against a third complainant are the charges that are specifically severed.

The charges come after allegations were made against incidents reportedly committed between 2021 and 2022. After authorities were first presented with a report of rape in February 2022, the investigation commenced. Head of the inquiry, Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, stressed that "our priority is to support the women who have come forward." Over three years, detectives have been investigating the case; the CPS has collaborated closely with Metropolitan Police officers to sift evidence and decide on suitable charges.

CPS London North Chief Crown Prosecutor Jaswant Narwal said, "The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised the prosecution of Thomas Partey on multiple counts of rape – after fully considering a full file of evidence". The CPS further mentioned that criminal trials are now in progress and advised people not to share any online details, comments, or reports that might be prejudicial to these proceedings.

What Does Thomas Partey Lawyer Have to Say?

With Thomas Partey charged with sexual assault, the allegations have been strongly denied by his lawyers. Comment issued through his lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, indicated that "Thomas Partey rejects all the accusations made against him". She went on to insist that "he has cooperated completely with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation" and Wiltshire also put in that Partey "now looks forward to the opportunity to once and for all clear his name" and added that “as there are now proceedings of a legal nature, my client is prevented from having anything further to say.”

Thomas Partey's defense team seems to be in their element; the lawyer points out that Partey is complying fully with all the long inquiry process. For offenses related to his former club Arsenal, the outfit has yet to issue an official statement. Incidentally, Partey's Arsenal contract expired just four days before the allegations were laid, i.e., on June 30, 2025. Partey was contracted by Arsenal at the time the incidents were said to have taken place, 2021–2022. Partey is currently not working for any team, not even Arsenal.
