Who Is Rima Chauhan?

Rima Chauhan is a 15-year-old primary school student who hails from Chandigarh, Punjab. She is a student of the Government Model Senior Secondary School in Sector 22 in Chandigarh, who has now been given a huge chance to kickstart a potential career as a female Indian footballer.

Rima Chauhan has been picked as the representative of her school to attend the FIFA academy trials, which is being held for the chance to join the AIFF-FIFA Talent Academy. The AIFF-FIFA Talent academy was actually launched by Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger in 2023 and there are seperate teams for the development of male and female footballers in the academy.

As part of the Rima Chauhan FIFA chance, she is among the 28 players from all over India to be picked to appear for the trials to potentially join the academy. The FIFA academy trials is set to take place from April 21 to April 23 in Hyderabad, and Rima Chauhan is the only female footballer from Chandigarh to be called to the academy. The FIFA-AIFF academy is located at the Gachibowli Stadium Complex in Hyderabad, which offers high-performance training, residential facilities, education, medical care as well as nutritional and mental development for 30 girls.

Rima Chauhan actually comes from a very humble background, being the eldest in her family among three sisters and one brother. Her father works as a street vendor in Chandigarh's Sector 22 Shashtri Market, but her entire family has been extremely supportive in helping her excel in her football development.

Chauhan has represented the Government Model Senior Secondary School in six tournaments and has featured in the coveted U-17 Subroto Cup twice as well. She is a hard-working defender, who has won the Best Defender award at the Khelo India Youth League and Reliance Cup, which has helped her be among those girls chosen to attend the FIFA academy trials. Chauhan has also stated that she considers the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Paolo Maldini and Sergio Ramos as her football idols, as she hopes to take their influence to climb up the football ladder and become a prominent female footballer in Indian football.
