Clement Lenglet began his career as a sensational French prodigy at Nancy's youth academy before joining the La Liga outfit Sevilla. Later, after honing his skills and proving his mettle in the Spanish top flight, he switched to Barcelona for €30 million in 2018. However, after spending three consecutive seasons at Camp Nou, Leglet eventually lost the trust of the Catalan giants and was sent out on loan for the next three years.
Lenglet wore the blue kit of the France National Football Team for the first time in 2010. After his nine years playing at the youth level, he received a senior call-up in 2019. Since then, he has been the backbone of the French defense with his gifted left foot.
2013-2017: After spending three years at Nancy's youth setup, Clement Lenglet was handed his senior debut in Ligue 2 in 2013. In the next season, he became a regular starter at the back, featuring in 34 games in the calendar year. Lenglet flourished in the French club and attracted a lot of attention following the triumphant finish that season. By the end of the 2016-17 season, the French sensation received multiple offers, especially from La Liga clubs.
2017-2021: His leadership qualities and presence of mind influenced Sevilla FC scouts, as the La Liga outfit signed him for €5 million to replace an outgoing Timothee Kolodziejczak. His debut came in a stylish fashion for the Andalusians as he featured against Real Madrid in a hard-fought 3-3 draw, which later led to a 6-3 loss on penalties in the Copa del Rey. In 2017, he was pitted against Spartak Moscow in the UEFA Champions League. His excellent performance enabled Barcelona to offer him a new deal in 2018. After several weeks of negotiations, Lenglet finally moved to Camp Nou.
In his first game for the Blaugrana, the French centre-back helped his side clinch a 2-1 win over his former club Sevilla to seal the Spanish Super Cup. In his debut season, Lenglet lifted the La Liga trophy and SuperCopa de España, but later lost his first-team spot due to inconsistency.
2022-25: Former Barcelona coach Xavi didn't want him in his squad, with Clement Lenglet finding a new home at Tottenham Hotspur in England as a loanee. He scored a decisive goal for the Whites in a Champions League clash against Marseille to help the Premier League side book a knockout berth. Despite his impressive season-long spell, Lenglet couldn't find his way back to Barca as he was again loaned out to Aston Villa. But, due to a lack of game time and tactical necessity, Lenglet mostly warmed the bench. In 2024, Atletico Madrid showed interest in his services, and Barcelona once again didn't hesitate to offload him for another loan contract. However, things began to change for good for Lenglet as he began to make his presence felt in the Atleti squad and perfectly fit in Simeone's setup. Following the end of the 2024-25 season, the Madrid-based club secured Lenglet's signature to tale him on board permanently on a three-year contract.
