Playing Style and Strengths
Rensch has been on the scouting radar of many top clubs because of his adaptability and resourcefulness. The 20-year-old ticks many boxes of what’s expected today from a modern full-back. He has that sheer pace, acceleration, and passing ability that makes him one of the rare breed of defenders who pull off his A-game when the need arises. Seen as one of the brightest prospects of the renowned Ajax academy, the Lelystad native is capable of playing anywhere across the back four, which defines his versatility. Rensch has experience at the highest level as he represented Ajax in the Champions League, facing Liverpool at Anfield in a 2-1 victory. Blessed with strong intercepting abilities, Rensch tries to move the ball forward as fast as possible.
His former coach, Erik Ten Hag, has always had nothing but good to say about him. In an exclusive interview with Algemeen Dagblad, the former Ajax boss lauded his student, particularly for his acute “vision, athleticism, and technique”. Ten Hag also felt that he had the potential to do much better if he had opted to play as a central defender. Rensch seconded his coach's opinion and said he likes to be brave on the pitch and does not hesitate if he has to dribble past players. He further revealed that he looks up to Daley Blind for inspiration.
