The 21-year-old started his journey with sports by joining the Palo Alto Soccer Club. After a few years, he moved to the San Jose Earthquakes Academy. His football skills were further developed when he joined Barça Residency Academy, an Arizona, USA-based academy of FC Barcelona. Luna's first professional club was El Paso Locomotive FC in the USL Championship. He also played for the reserve team of Real Salt Lake, Real Monarchs SLC, in his career. The footballer joined Real Salt Lake in 2022, and his contract was valid through the 2024 MLS season. Then, in 2024, he signed an extended contract until 2026, with club options for 2027 and 2028. Diego Luna career is itself a motivation for him to build higher.
The future of football began with his club career at a young age; his youth clubs include Palo Alto Soccer Club, San Jose Earthquakes Academy and Barça Residency Academy. His senior debut was with El Paso Locomotive FC in 2021, appeared in 43 matches and scored 13 goals for the club. He also contributed to Real Monarchs SLC with his excellent performance. The player joined the MLS club, Real Salt Lake, in 2022, and he even grabbed the 2024 MLS Young Player of the Year and MLS All-Star titles.
Diego's debut for the senior team was in 2024, and his first national goal happened in the Gold Cup quarter-final against Costa Rica. He scored two goals in the first half of the Gold Cup semi-finals, also. Luna is an Under-20 World Cup participant, and he was part of the team when they won the CONCACAF U-20 Championship in 2022.
The midfielder has been an outstanding player in Major League Soccer. He has achieved one of the greatest recognitions by becoming the second player in MLS history to achieve 20+ goal contributions before turning 21. He recorded 8 goals and 12 assists. The player has also been praised for his performance for the country in winning competitions.
