Naorem Mahesh Singh career started with Shillong Lajong FC. In the youth team, he was playing in the Shillong Premier League, and when he was promoted to the senior team, he played in the I-League. He joined the Kerala Blasters reserve team in 2020 to play in the I-League 2nd Division and was soon promoted to the main squad to play in the 2020-21 season, but due to tough competition in the team, he didn't get much playing time. He was loaned to Sudeva Delhi FC to play in the I-League and also to East Bengal FC from Kerala Blasters. Finally, he permanently transferred to East Bengal FC in 2022, thanks to the impressive performance he showcased during his loan spell with the team. Now, he has signed a permanent contract with East Bengal until 2027. Mahesh has represented India in various games steadily since 2023. His contributions have helped both the club and the national team achieve awards.
The 26-year-old player made his senior debut in 2018 for Shillong Lajong FC in the I-League. He scored two goals in the game against Aizawl in the 20th and 51st minutes. His first ISL club was Kerala Blasters FC. From there, he was loaned to Sudeva Delhi FC in the same 2020-21 season. Playing for East Bengal FC for the first time was also a loan transfer from Kerala Blasters FC. In the 2022-23 ISL season, he made history as the first Indian player to make three assists in a single match, against Jamshedpur FC. He has 100 appearances, 14 goals and 12 assists for East Bengal FC in his career.
Mahesh made his debut in the Indian National Football Team in 2023 against Myanmar during the Tri-Nations Cup, coming on as a substitute in the 70th minute. Against Nepal in the SAFF Championship, he scored his first goal for the Indian team, resulting in a 2-0 victory for the nation. After two decades of 22 years, India participated in the 42nd edition of the Pestabola Merdeka Cup, and in the match against Malaysia, Mahesh scored the opening goal. Even though India faced defeat, his performance was an extraordinary one, with India's return since 2001 to Merdeka.
The Indian Left Winger has been a star in the games of both club and nation. He has made many great contributions to the teams he has played with so far. In November 2022, he won the award of ISL's Emerging Player of the Month, a title that is given to the best young players in ISL every month. In 2023, during East Bengal FC’s 104th Foundation Day celebration, the player was awarded the Emerging Player of the Year.
