Regeer was born in the capital of the North Holland province of Haarlem and had footballing genes in his blood from the day he was welcomed into the world. He is the son of a former footballer in Arend Regeer, who played for several Dutch clubs like Noordwijk, Zandvoort, Telstar and Noordwijk in his career. Incidentally, Arend was also a midfielder and represented Telstar in the Eredivisie. Arend has transitioned into a coaching role after retiring from football and managed Ado Den Haag's women's team. He even served as a high school teacher at Albeda College from 2019-2021, and now works at the Nova College, along with doing part-time coaching.
Arden and his partner, whose name has not been made available to the public, have always pushed Youri Regeer to succeed as a footballer. Youri started his football journey at the age of nine, when he joined SV Zandvoort's youth academy. He played for Rijnsburgse Boys' academy in Rijnsburg from 2012-2015 before joining Ado den Haag's youth academy at the age of 12. After refining his skills for two years at their academy, he joined the prestigious Ajax youth academy at the age of 14 in 2017. The Dutchman has always been motivated by his family to develop his footballing skills, with Ardend's coaching qualities also helping Youri to grow into a competitive footballer at an early stage of his life.
Regeer has been able to improve himself as a vibrant midfielder over the years and has worked hard to get to the level he has achieved right now. The youngster possesses all the qualities of an aggressive midfielder who loves to clatter into opponents with feisty tackles and get physical on the pitch. He excels at winning possession thanks to his impressive pressing ability and is especially admirable with winning aerial duels or headers, despite being only about 5'10" in height.
However, Regeer's playing style is not just about winning the ball back or pressing the opponents. He is equally impressive in passing the ball, having a variety of different distribution techniques in his arsenal. He likes to play one-touch football and quickly move the ball forward, but has also shown an ability to play creative long balls to send his teammates into key areas in the final third. To his credit, Regeer's sturdy defensive qualities have also seen him play as a defender on several occasions. He can also operate in the right-back area with ease thanks to his speed and ability to neutralize wingers, and has also showcased an ability to carry the ball forward.
