International Tournaments

FIFA World Cup: The FIFA World Cup is held every four years and is easily the most popular and watched sports tournament in the world. The inaugural tournament was held in 1930, and since then, barring two editions, it has been held every four years. The previous edition, the 2022 FIFA World Cup, was watched by over 1.5 billion people on TV and other streaming platforms. Argentina was crowned champions after defeating France in an edge-of-the-seat thrilling final. Brazil, with five titles, is the most successful team.

UEFA European Championship: The European Championship is a premier international tournament in the continent. The tournament has featured 24 teams since 2016. However, 55 teams battle each other to qualify for the final stage. The reigning champions, Spain is the most successful team with four titles next to their name.

Copa America: The Copa America is the top-flight international tournament played between teams from South America. Unlike the Euros, the latest edition of Copa America in 2024 was played between only 16 teams. Argentina, with 16 titles, and Uruguay, with 15 wins, are the most successful teams in the tournament's history.

European Leagues

Premier League: The Premier League is England's top-flight football league. 20 teams compete against each other from the start of the season in August to May. The fight among the teams is not only for the coveted PL trophy but also for qualification spots for Europe's biggest competitions.

La Liga: La Liga is one of the biggest football leagues featuring the Kings of Europe, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid. The league features some of the best football teams in the world. These clubs have a major fan following across the globe.

Bundesliga: Bundesliga was dominated by Bayern Munich for a long period in the previous decade. However, the recent resurgence of Bayer Leverkusen in the 2023/24 season saw them win the title without losing a single game.

Serie A: Even though Serie A has lost its place among the top leagues in Europe, with clubs like AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, and Napoli, the Italian league certainly carries a rich legacy. In European competitions, the Italian clubs are not the powerhouse they once were.

Ligue 1:France's Ligue 1 is often carried by Paris Saint-Germain. Over the years, PSG has gotten some of the best players in the world to play for their team. However, they do not have a UCL trophy to show for their efforts. Other major clubs from Ligue 1 are Marseille, Monaco, and Olympique Lyonnais.

EFL Championship: Even though the EFL Championship is not a top-flight competition, it is one of the leagues that is most closely followed. It is a football league that was founded in 1892. The EFL Championship is contested by 24 clubs as the teams battle out to gain promotion and reach the Premier League.

Super Lig: Turkey's Super Lig is one of the richly historic leagues in Europe. Clubs like Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are as iconic as some of the most famous clubs in the world. There have been 75 clubs in the history of the competition. However, only six of them have a title next to their name. The competition is dominated by Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, and Besiktas, as they share 59 titles.

Major Domestic Cups

FA Cup and EFL Cup (Carabao Cup)

FA Cup: The FA Cup is England's premier domestic tournament. It is a fiercely contested competition, with more than 700 games being played in a single season. The preliminary rounds of the tournament start in August, and the proper competition begins in November. Clubs from the Premier League and English Football League join the tournament in January due to high seeding. Arsenal, with 14 titles, is the most successful club in the competition. However, the Gunners are closely followed by Manchester United, who won their 13th title in the previous season. It is considered to be a part of the treble.

EFL Cup: The EFL Cup, popularly known as the Carabao Cup for sponsorship reasons, is another domestic competition in England. Unlike many tournaments, the EFL Cup is a purely knockout competition. First held in 1960/61, the competition features 92 teams from England and Wales. The current champions, Liverpool, have 10 titles and are the most successful club in the competition.
