Belgium Vs Liechtenstein Player Ratings

Summary

  • In the last leg of the European qualifiers Belgium national football team beat Liechtenstein by 7 goals
  • Jeremy Doku was the best player on the ground today

What we just witnessed was less of a football match and more of a brutal exhibition. Belgium dismantled a helpless Liechtenstein side in a 7-0 demolition that felt inevitable from the first whistle. This match in the WC Qualification Europe was pure one-way traffic. From our perspective, the gulf in class was staggering.

The onslaught began almost immediately. Hans Vanaken opened the scoring within three minutes, and you just knew it was going to be a long night for the visitors. The first half was the Jérémy Doku show, as he tormented the Liechtenstein defence, bagging two goals before the break. His performance was simply on another level.

If Liechtenstein hoped for a respite in the second half, they were sorely mistaken. Belgium came out and scored four goals in a chaotic seven-minute spell, with Charles De Ketelaere grabbing a quick-fire brace himself. It was a statement of intent, a display of utter ruthlessness that lit up the Stade Maurice Dufrasne. Liechtenstein barely laid a glove on them, spending the entire game chasing shadows.

Here are Belgium Vs Liechtenstein Player Ratings

Goalkeeper

Senne Lammens - 6.5: We barely noticed he was on the pitch. Lammens had one save to make all game, which tells you everything about Belgium's dominance. He completed his passes and was a spectator for the most part. It’s hard to give a high rating for doing so little, but he didn't put a foot wrong. An easy, clean sheet.

Defenders

Arthur Theate - 7.5: Composed and untroubled at the back. Theate strolled through this game, distributing the ball with an impressive 96% accuracy from his 93 passes. He was never under any real pressure, allowing him to step into midfield and help build attacks. A very comfortable evening's work.

Brandon Mechele - 9.0: A colossal performance from the central defender. Not only did he get on the scoresheet, but he was a rock defensively, winning all nine of his duels and making 11 ball recoveries. His passing was near-perfect, and he completely dominated his area. An outstanding display at both ends of the pitch.

Thomas Meunier - 9.0: A force of nature down the right flank. Meunier was a constant outlet, providing an assist, creating two big chances, and was desperately unlucky not to score himself, hitting the woodwork. He had a staggering 117 touches, showing his involvement in everything good Belgium did. A truly commanding wing-back performance.

Timothy Castagne - 8.0: Very solid on the opposite flank. While Meunier grabbed the headlines on the right, Castagne was diligent and effective on the left. He was tidy in possession with 95% pass accuracy and supported the attack well, even getting a header on target. Defensively sound and contributed to the clean sheet with ease.

Midfielders

Youri Tielemans - 8.5: The captain ran the show from midfield for the 60 minutes he was on. He dictated the tempo, delivered an assist, and created two chances with his incisive passing. What stood out to us was his perfect duel success rate, winning all six of his contests. A classy and controlled performance before being given a well-earned rest.

Hans Vanaken - 8.0: Got the party started with the opening goal just three minutes in. Vanaken was a constant threat, registering five shots and always looking to get into dangerous positions. He linked up play effectively and was a key part of the early dominance that broke Liechtenstein's spirit. A very effective outing.

Nicolas Raskin - 7.5: The quiet operator in midfield. Raskin was incredibly tidy, completing 97% of his passes and keeping the team ticking over. He did the simple things exceptionally well, recovering the ball and winning his tackles. While others provided the fireworks, his control was essential to the team's structure.

Forwards

Jérémy Doku - 10: A perfect performance. From our perspective, Doku was simply unplayable and the undisputed highest-rated player. He scored two, assisted one, and completed seven dribbles that left defenders dizzy. Every time he got the ball, you felt something was going to happen. He was electric, ruthless, and the main reason this became a rout. A joy to watch.

Charles De Ketelaere - 9.5: Absolutely clinical. De Ketelaere was devastating in his 60 minutes, scoring two goals from his two shots on target and providing an assist. His movement and finishing were top-class, particularly for his header. He showed exactly why he is so highly rated with a ruthless display of attacking prowess.

Alexis Saelemaekers - 8.5: Full of energy and creativity on the wing. Saelemaekers got his deserved goal and also chipped in with an assist. He was a constant nuisance, drawing fouls and creating three key chances for his teammates. His direct running and willingness to take players on was a key feature of Belgium's relentless attack.

Substitutes

Axel Witsel - 6.5: Came on to see the game out and kept things simple.

Leandro Trossard - 6.5: Looked lively but the game was already over as a contest.

Loïs Openda - 6.0: Had a late chance but couldn't convert.

Dodi Lukébakio - 6.0: Provided fresh legs on the wing.

Diego Moreira - 6.0: A late cameo with the job long done.

Manager

R. Garcia - 9.0: Set his team up perfectly to exploit Liechtenstein's weaknesses. He demanded ruthlessness and his players delivered in spectacular fashion. The substitutions were managed well, giving key players a rest once the game was secured. You can't ask for a more perfect result or performance from your team.

Goalkeeper

Benjamin Büchel - 4.5: A truly miserable night for the keeper. Conceding seven goals is a nightmare for any goalkeeper, and he was left completely exposed by his defence. However, he did make five saves, including a couple of good ones, which prevented the scoreline from becoming even more embarrassing. It feels harsh, but it was a brutal evening.

Defenders

Andreas Malin - 4.0: He was just overwhelmed. Malin made nine clearances and three blocked shots, throwing his body on the line. But he was part of a defensive unit that was torn to shreds by Belgium's fluid attack. He was dribbled past and couldn't stem the tide. A thankless, impossible task.

Livio Meier - 3.5: Chased shadows all night long. While he made seven clearances, he couldn't get close to the Belgian attackers. He was constantly pulled out of position and struggled to cope with the pace and movement he was up against. A very difficult game for the defender.

Jens Hofer - 2.0: A disastrous performance that he will want to forget immediately. Hofer was credited with two errors leading directly to goals, a statistic that says it all. He was dribbled past three times and looked completely out of his depth. From our perspective, he was the worst performer on the pitch by a considerable margin.

Midfielders

Maximilian Göppel - N/A: Forced off with an injury after just 18 minutes.

Aron Sele - 5.5: One of the few Liechtenstein players to emerge with any credit. Sele battled hard in midfield, winning nine duels and making 11 ball recoveries. He never stopped running and even managed his team's only shot on target. His effort was commendable in a completely beaten side.

Simon Lüchinger - 4.0: Completely anonymous in midfield. He struggled to get on the ball and had little to no impact on the game before being substituted. The game simply passed him by as he chased the Belgian midfield around the park. It was a tough assignment he couldn't handle.

Nicolas Hasler - 4.0: As the captain, you'd hope for more, but Hasler was a passenger. He lost possession 10 times and failed to provide any leadership or control in the middle of the park. He was swallowed up by the opposition and couldn't influence the game in any meaningful way.

Sandro Wolfinger - 3.5: Another player who had a torrid time. Wolfinger was dribbled past three times and offered very little going forward or defensively. He won just a quarter of his duels and looked off the pace. A very challenging night for the midfielder.

Forwards

Fabio Luque-Notaro - 4.0: An incredibly isolating and thankless role. He barely touched the ball and lost it 15 times when he did. He was given absolutely no service and spent his time on the pitch chasing down defenders with no real hope of success. You have to feel for him.

Kenny Kindle - 3.5: Made zero impact and was hooked at half-time. He was completely invisible during the first half, failing to get involved in play and offering no threat. The substitution was no surprise at all.

Substitutes

Emanuel Zünd - 4.5: Came on early for the injured Göppel and was thrown into the fire.

Willy Pizzi - 5.0: Added some energy but couldn't change the game's course.

Alessio Hasler - 5.0: Ran hard but the damage was long done.

Jonas Weissenhofer - N/A

Severin Schlegel - N/A

Manager

K. Fünfstück - 3.0: What could he possibly do? His team was set up to be compact and defend, but they were simply no match for the quality of Belgium. The game plan went out the window after three minutes. His players were outclassed in every single position, leaving him helpless on the sideline.

Sportsdunia's player of the match is Jeremy Doku
